I feel sorry for candy wrappers, they are so empty! They are so disregarded and forgotten. No one ever talks about candy wrappers even when they are filled with candy. If they are filled with candy, we call it “BonBon”, or a “chocolate bar”, we call it “tootsie roll” or “MaryJane” or “Reese’s cup”. If it is not filled with candy, we call it trash and throw it away. And the wrapper is content to go unnoticed. It knows its place in the universe: to serve simply as a sign pointing to the main event. It is content to be forgotten in the rush for instant gratification, because in its emptiness, it has found its own truth. It becomes what it truly is, simply a wrapper. Unable to be recycled, it cannot go on.

I was given a chellenge: connecting three random words in one paragraph story. Here it is:

What the police didn’t know was that an accomplice, dressed as a gardener, was using a hand-held radio to inform the robbers inside of the situation on the street. He was trimming away at those bushes like a pro and not a single person, including policeman nearby, suspected him to be the part of the crew. “How could that be?” wailed the commentator on local TV later on, “the robbers got away with 5 Million dollars through the back door and no one saw them”.

South Beach residents beware: scam artist alert!

White male in his late 40`s, early 50`s, about 6`1, blondish curly hair, about 200lb neatly dressed goes door to door pretending to be your next door neighbor who just moved in couple of weeks ago and has a real emergency.

As the story goes, his beloved brother borrowed his car and managed to get into an accident in Ft. Lauderdale area. He is listed in critical condition. As any good story goes, the gentlemen in distress is trying to get to that hospital as we speak, however his wallet happened to be in the glove compartment of the car that was involved in the accident. Got $50 bucks?

Did you say you wish to speak to the manager?

Aahhh, South Beach! Great beaches, hot people, amazing night life! There is one fundamental thing you should to understand and accept when visiting South Beach – don’t expect any service… Yes, you heard me right. Most restaurants will give you a “privilege” to dine with them, however don’t ask for nothing else. Do you want something that is not on the menu? – Too bad, we can’t do that. Wish to substitute your mash potatoes for roasted potatoes or French beans? – No can do. What about adding that avocado you have been craving to your dish (and yes, I see it on the salad menu!) – No, sorry! And God forbid you try to subtract the “automatic gratuity” cause you unhappy with the service – the waiter will chase you down the street! Yes, true story!

Most of my well traveled friends go ballistic and foam at the mouth demanding managers (who usually just happened to stepped out on a very important mission). Foodies, relax… Think of your visit to South Beach as a vacation for your digestive system. Your stomach needs a break too!

What you probably don’t realize are the following facts: low standards of service stem from ever fleeing staff of servers (yes, they want to party just like the rest of us, and naturally want to sleep in or take a day off after hard-core night at Mynt.) Managers could never keep them long enough to give a proper training, and the fact that 15% to 19% gratuity already included – does not give your server any motivation to try harder. Most of the time they just sleep-walking through their entire shift while dreaming of next vodka-tonic to pick them up so they could embark on their next all night bender.

Now, really, why do you think most South Beach residents are so lanky? Yes, good guess! We don’t live here for food, we live for entertainment! It’s all about how to get into next amazing soiree on Star Island hosted by Rolls Royce or new SoHo Beach Club while wearing your latest, tightest couture mini dress. Throughout years I watched many “healthy-looking” (and what I mean by that is “pudgy”) newcomers transform themselves from “Ohio average” to “universal bomb-shell” as motivation and competition to get in the best shape possible is the way of South Beach life. Blame the tropical weather or Miami Heat cheerleaders – after six month of living here you will find yourself turning heads while doing your daily 5 mile run on the beach, then showing up for your training session all ripped and toned. …Now, who has time for food?

However, for those of you who completely disagree, here is the short list of places where you might get lucky scoring some good service followed by tasty bites:

If you looking for a quick fix, last minute SPA treatment – checkout “E SPA” on Lincoln rd. Most spas are booked for a week in advance, while giving you just average treatments. At E SPA you will find fabulous mani/pedi in super comfortable chairs while sipping Spaitini, or get a facial while at it. That is what I do in order to cut down on upkeep routine from three hours to one. When calling them at 305-534-3223, please talk to Brenda (owner of the spa); ask her for “Malinka package” they know what it is: “Happy Feet” pedicure by Pilar, manicure done by another esthetician and Oxygen facial by Burnidette. You will have three top people working on you at the same time. In one hour you will be ready for your close up!

Well, here I am, finally made to to the world of Blogging! In my regular updates you will find interesting things about South Beach and its residents. Restaurant, spa and hotel reviews, as well as tips on where to go if you are out of town or have not been “in touch” with what is HOT and FRESH in South Beach.

Let me start by reminding you of something you might already know: in 40`s Miami Beach was considered America`s Riviera, hangout for rich and famous. And while the skyline has seen change on a grand scale, its party-loving reputation remains.

But there is much more to the “Magic City” than clubbling. With all glitz and glamour, South Beach is a buzzing city with fabulous architecture, a bugeoning art scene as hot as the climate. Team this with its glittering coastline, wealth of nationalities and ties to Latin America, and you have one of the world`s most exotic locations.
